The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary announced that Bradley G. Green will join the faculty as Professor of Philosophy and Christian Theology. Green brings decades of experience in theological and philosophical scholarship, a rich publication record, and a deep commitment to the formation of the next generation of Christian leaders.
President R. Albert Mohler, Jr. expressed his enthusiasm for Green’s appointment. “Brad Green is an outstanding scholar of deep conviction who comes with decades of outstanding teaching and scholarship, and who brings all those strengths to The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.” Mohler continued, “He’s a man of incredibly deep conviction and passion for the truth. The Lord has given him a brilliant mind that he employs in some of the best critical analyses of Theology and culture in our times.”
Green earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Theological Studies from Baylor University. He also holds a Master of Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Master of Divinity from Southern Seminary. Green is returning to Southern as a full-time faculty member after serving as a Visiting Professor of Philosophy and Theology since 2020.
His scholarly output spans numerous books and edited volumes, including Covenant and Commandment: Works, Obedience and Faithfulness in the Christian Life in the New Studies in Biblical Theology series edited by D.A. Carson, Augustine of Hippo: His Life and Impact, and The Gospel and the Mind: Recovering and Shaping the Intellectual Life. His most recent book is What is Critical Theory? A Concise Christian Analysis, from Crossway.
“I am thrilled that Brad Green will be joining the residential faculty at Southern Seminary, said Provost Paul Akin. “I have known Brad for more than two decades; he was my theology professor during my undergraduate years at Union University, and he has had an incredible influence on my thinking and love for the Bible and theology. His presence on our campus is a tremendous gain for Southern and its students. Excited to welcome Brad and Dianne to Louisville.”
Commitment to Southern Seminary
Green said he is eager to join the Southern community full-time and contribute to its mission of training faithful Christian ministers.
“I very much look forward to joining the faculty full-time,” Green said. “I am excited about training the next generation of pastors, servants of God, missionaries, counselors, and those feeling led in a vocationally academic direction. I am an alumnus of SBTS, and I am honored and excited to be able to return to Southern to link arms in the shaping and training of students.”
Green noted that his years of part-time teaching at Southern have only deepened his excitement for the institution and its students.
“I have been teaching part-time at SBTS since 2020,” Green said. “I have found the students engaged, eager to learn, and bright. That actually contributes to making teaching all the more joyful and meaningful. I look forward to working with these kinds of students.”
With Green’s appointment, Southern Seminary continues to strengthen its commitment to rigorous Christian scholarship and the formation of students who are trusted for truth.
