Boyce College Graduates Commissioned to Serve Christ with Conviction and Joy

Jacob Percy — May 9, 2025

“You are not to be conformed to this world,” charged President R. Albert Mohler, Jr., “but show the world what it means to be transformed by the wisdom of Christ.”

On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the Boyce College Class of 2025 gathered on the Seminary Lawn for the school’s 27th Commencement Ceremony, a day marked by gratitude, joy, and hope. Faculty, family, and friends joined together on a beautiful spring morning to celebrate the academic accomplishments and discipleships of the graduates as they prepare to go out in service to Christ and his church.

This year, 178 students were awarded their degrees and now go out as pastors, teachers, entrepreneurs, communicators, missionaries, and more—prepared to serve the church, strengthen families, and influence culture wherever God calls them.

A Unified Vision for All of Life

Preaching from Romans 11:33–12:2, President Mohler reminded graduates that their education at Boyce College has been shaped by a unified vision of truth grounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ. “There’s no purpose for this college apart from the fact that truth is real,” Mohler said. “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever.”

He emphasized that Boyce College exists to form students in the truth—truth that is eternal, revealed by God, and comprehensive in its scope. “The world has no idea how subversive we intend to be,” he said. “They do not understand how your education is so different. It is founded upon the unity of all truth in Christ.”

Calling the Class of 2025 to live as “living sacrifices,” Mohler urged them to resist conformity to the world and instead be transformed by the renewing of their minds. “You’re not the same as when you came,” he said. “By God’s grace, you’ve been prepared for the calling, the battles, the joys, and even the sorrows ahead. You leave here as those entrusted with truth—transformed—and you are sent to show the world what it means to follow Christ with clarity and courage.”

A Charge to Zealously Serve

Dean Dustin Bruce spoke from Romans 12:11, encouraging graduates to maintain spiritual zeal and take urgent action in their service to Christ. “One of the things I love most about you,” Bruce said, “is your sense of urgency for the things that matter most. My great desire for you is that this zeal would not diminish—but would be channeled into fresh opportunities.”

Referencing Winston Churchill’s wartime motto, “Action This Day,” Bruce called graduates to live with daily faithfulness. “Class of 2025, when it comes to the things of the Lord, take action—today, and the next day, and the next day—until Christ returns. Do not be slothful in zeal. Be fervent in spirit. Serve the Lord.”

The ceremony—like every commencement at Boyce College—was marked by Scripture, prayer, and worship, reminding graduates that this moment is not just a personal achievement but a public commissioning. Graduates stood together to recite the Boyce College Graduate Pledge, declaring: “We are unashamed of the Gospel, determined to serve wherever God may call us, knowing that by the power of the resurrected Christ, our labor is not in vain.” The ceremony concluded with the singing of the seminary hymn, “Soldiers of Christ in Truth Arrayed,” a fitting reminder of the mission and joy that awaits the graduates as they go forth.

Honoring Excellent Pedagogy

This year’s Charles W. Draper Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence was presented to Jason E. Leverett, Associate Professor of Communication. Named in honor of longtime professor Charles W. Draper, the award is chosen by students and faculty to recognize excellence in teaching and Christlike investment in students. Leverett, who has served Boyce College faithfully in the classroom and community, continues Dr. Draper’s legacy of academic rigor and spiritual care.
