Greg Wills is Professor of Church History and Director of Research Doctoral Studies. He has served in a number of other roles since joining the seminary in 1994, including Dean of the School of Theology, Vice-President for Institutional Research, and Archives and Special Collections Librarian. Dr. Wills also taught at Southern Seminary from 1997-2019. From 2019-2022 he was Dean of the School of Theology and Professor of Church History at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He rejoined Southern Seminary in 2023.
He published a history of the Seminary, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1859-2009 (Oxford University Press), and Democratic Religion: Freedom, Authority, and Church Discipline in the Baptist South, 1785-1900. (Oxford University Press). He is currently writing a history of Southern Baptists for B&H Academic. He enjoys reading, hiking, hunting, and fishing. He is married to Cathy. They have four children.
