Children's Aquatics

About the Program

All of the classes in our Children’s Aquatics programs are created to help children become comfortable and confident in the water. Our goal is not only to teach children the basic skills and strokes of swimming but also how to be safe in and around the water. We have a variety of classes and aim to serve all levels of swimmers, from babies to teens. Please see the individual class descriptions below for details. Please contact Ashley Akesson at or Kristin Carrillo at with any questions.

Southern’s Children’s Department programs are limited to Southern affiliates. Although we have enjoyed serving those in the Louisville area, as our numbers grow we must hold fast to our mission of serving the seminary community as they prepare for ministry. By instituting this new policy we will be able to use our resources to more effectively reach this goal.

If you have questions or concerns please contact Ashley Akesson at or you may contact the Health and Rec. Center by phone at 502-897-4720.

By submitting registration forms, you grant permission for your child (as listed in the form), to attend the children’s program as registered for at the SBTS Health and Recreation Center. You agree to hold blameless all caregivers, assistants, and all affiliates to the Health and Recreation Center from any and all injuries that may result from this program. In the event that you cannot be contacted, you authorize the HRC to obtain emergency medical care for your child.

Spring 2023 - Program Update

Swim Programming will not be offered in Spring 2023. This was not an easy decision for us to make as we know many love and benefit from this program. There are many factors (such as pool, lifeguard, and instructor availability) regarding deciding whether a program will be offered each semester and in what capacity. Ultimately, our first priority is to offer the safest and best experience for your kids and at least for this semester feel that, given the answers to the above factors, will not account for the best possible experience for your kids.

Any questions or concerns regarding this update should be directed to our Coordinator of Childcare, Ashley Akesson at
