Foundational ballet skills and technique are developed in a joyful environment. Students will be given the opportunity to perform in the end of the semester recital. Our goal to provide a Christ-like ballet environment for preschoolers to enjoy and learn the beginning knowledge of ballet movements and to offer a foundation for a performing for God’s glory and to the best of their ability.

Beginner I

They should be able to respond expressively to music and show an appropriate sense of performance in their dancing. Our goal is to provide a classical ballet class that offers strong technique and vocabulary while offering a warm, Christ-like atmosphere to teach that ballet is a gift from God and should be used for his glory.

Beginner II

Ages 7-8

This 45 minute class is a continuation of level 1, and prepares students for a successful transition to a more serious approach to their ballet studies in the intermediate and advanced levels. On completion of this class, students should be able to demonstrate an awareness of line through the body and articulation of limbs through harmonious coordination, dynamic elevation and use of space. They should be able to respond expressively to music and show an appropriate sense of performance in their dancing. Our goal is to provide a classical ballet class that offers strong technique and vocabulary while offering a warm, Christ-like atmosphere to teach that ballet is a gift from God and should be used for his glory.

Intermediate

Ages 9-12

Must have turned 9 by registration

This 50 minute class enables students to show an understanding of basic Ballet technique, which includes being able to demonstrate secure classical posture and weight placement with appropriate use of ‘turn-out’. They should be able to move with ease across the floor while establishing harmonious lines through the body and demonstrate an ability to perform with increasing confidence, awareness of the audience and responsiveness to musical rhythms, phrasing and dynamics. Our goal is to provide a Christ-like ballet experience that teaches strong ballet technique to offer a firm foundation in their walk with Christ as well as a foundation in the ballet career if they choose to go further in their learning in addition to performing in a modest and God-glorifying attire and manner.

Advanced I & II

Invitation only

This 90 minute class enables students to demonstrate an increasing consolidation of knowledge and understanding of a systematically developed vocabulary of balletic movements. These include the ability to demonstrate various steps showing confident control of posture, turnout and line while turning and jumping. Students also further develop an awareness of their own safe dance practice and demonstrate an ability to perform with increasing confidence, awareness of the audience and responsiveness to musical rhythms, phrasing and dynamics. Our goal is to further ballet technique in students who show dedication and commitment to their learning and to teach them to do their best to the glory of God and not for themselves. (Advanced II is a continuation of I, working on the same techniques but in an older age group).

Our Bella Ballet Coordinator

Juli Gibson

Juli has been a part of the Southern family for the past ten years. She and her husband Kody, moved from Oklahoma in 2009 to attend Southern Seminary and have stayed even after graduating to continue serving the institution, where Kody currently serves as the Vice President of Communications. Together they have a daughter Liv, age 6, and son, Campbell, age 3. Before staying home with her children, Juli had a career with the YMCA leading and planning Family Programs and she is thrilled to serve the SBTS community as the Bella Ballet Program Coordinator. She believes this is a special program and through her own daughter’s participation, has seen firsthand its benefits.
