Education

B.S., University of Southern Mississippi M.Div., New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary Ph.D., The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

Should you join the corps of students in the School of Theology? It depends. If you’re a lazy, passionless careerist hoping for a comfortable ministry in a helping profession, the answer is no. If you’re a biblically-convicted, Spirit-aflame minister of the Gospel of Jesus, ready to take on the principalities and powers and fight them to the point of your own spilled blood, then the answer is yes.

The School of Theology is all about the Bible and the church. We train preachers and teachers, pastors and missionaries, counselors and apologists: every possible calling to press the claims of Christ into the territory of this present darkness.

If you want an easy degree and a boring ministry, the School of Theology is not for you.

Because we’re at war, we bring to the task a world-renowned faculty. If you study anywhere else, you’ll be assigned books written by the professors in the School of Theology at Southern Seminary. We seriously submerge every student in the Word of God. It won’t be easy, but when you graduate you will know the oracles of God, you’ll know how the Bible fits together, and you’ll know to teach it, preach it, counsel from it, evangelize with it, and defend it in a hostile public square.

Because we’re at war, we bring to the task cutting-edge degree programs. The Master of Divinity degree in the School of Theology is top of the line. The Pastoral Studies emphasis will shape you into a well-rounded shepherd of the flock, ready for a lifetime of ministry in the trenches. The Biblical and Theological Studies emphasis is a rigorous boot camp for very serious scholars, equipping the next generation of expert pastors, theologians, and apologists.

The Christian Ministry emphasis is our “flex track,” enabling you to design the kind of program that best suits your ministry objectives and callings. The Biblical Counseling emphasis is a one-of-a-kind program training pastors and counselors how to meet real human needs from a Word of God that is sufficient to address every skirmish in the life of every soul.

If you want an easy degree and a boring ministry, the School of Theology is not for you. But if you’re ready to go to war against the Serpent of Eden through the triumph of a crucified and resurrected King, then I’m ready to be your Dean, this faculty is ready to show you the way, and these students are ready to be your band of warrior companions for life. If you’re ready for the fight of your life, pick up your Sword. The School of Theology is ready for you.
