The Purpose of the School of Theology
Dr. Russell D. Moore

Is God calling you to preach? Is God calling you to teach? Is God calling you to stand in the pulpits and behind lecterns and across the table of the coffee shop and in front of people in the living rooms of their homes, boldly proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ?

The Bible tells us that the whole world is enemy-occupied territory-and has been for thousands of years. What's needed today, just as in every era of history, are those who are willing to stand up with the sword of the Spirit and declare war on the serpent of Eden.

And that might be you.

If God's calling you to take up a copy of the Word of God and to stand up and to plead with sinners to be reconciled to God in Jesus Christ, then you ought to prepare in the place where you are going to go through the hardest and most rigorous preparation you can find in order to proclaim the oracles of God-the School of Theology at Southern Seminary.

We have a world-class faculty of scholars who write books and give lectures and who are well known throughout the world-but more than that, they'll know you. They'll pour their lives into you, shaping you and forming you into being the kind of minister that the world needs.

If you're interested in a career-a boring, middle-class, American ministry career-then the School of Theology is not the place for you. But if you're ready to declare war on the principalities and powers, with a gospel that saves and transforms and changes the entire world, then we're ready for you.
