Class Descriptions

Creative Movement

Ages 2.5-3 (must be fully potty-trained)

This 25 minute class develops foundational ballet skills as well as self-expression in creative movement. Class will contain ballet exercises to learn general movement and classes close with purely creative movement, incorporating props, storytelling and improvisation. Students will participate in low-stress, in class performances for friends and family at the end of the semester but will not participate in the end of semester recital. Our goal to provide a friendly, Christ-like ballet environment for young ones to enjoy and learn the basic movements of their body and to offer a foundation for a ballet-learning career.

Pre-Ballet

Age 4-5

In this 25 minute class, dancers develop poise, focus, grace, and musicality through imaginative exercises and enjoyable routines. Foundational ballet skills and technique are developed in a joyful environment. Students will be given the opportunity to perform in the end of the semester recital. Our goal to provide a Christ-like ballet environment for preschoolers to enjoy and learn the beginning knowledge of ballet movements and to offer a foundation for a performing for God’s glory and to the best of their ability.

Beginner I

Ages 5-6 (Must have turned 5 by registration)

This 45 minute class is a strong foundation that prepares students for a successful transition to a more serious approach to their ballet studies in the intermediate and advanced levels. On completion of this class, students should be able to demonstrate an awareness of line through the body and articulation of limbs through harmonious coordination, dynamic elevation and use of space. They should be able to respond expressively to music and show an appropriate sense of performance in their dancing. Our goal is to provide a classical ballet class that offers strong technique and vocabulary while offering a warm, Christ-like atmosphere to teach that ballet is a gift from God and should be used for his glory.

Beginner II

Ages 7-8

This 45 minute class is a continuation of level 1, and prepares students for a successful transition to a more serious approach to their ballet studies in the intermediate and advanced levels.

Intermediate

Ages 9-12

This 50 minute class enables students to show an understanding of basic Ballet technique, which includes being able to demonstrate secure classical posture and weight placement with appropriate use of ‘turn-out’. They should be able to move with ease across the floor while establishing harmonious lines through the body and demonstrate an ability to perform with increasing confidence, awareness of the audience and responsiveness to musical rhythms, phrasing and dynamics. Our goal is to provide a Christ-like ballet experience that teaches strong ballet technique to offer a firm foundation in their walk with Christ as well as a foundation in the ballet career if they choose to go further in their learning in addition to performing in a modest and God-glorifying attire and manner.

Advanced I & II

Ages 10 and up; invitation only

This 90 minute class enables students to demonstrate an increasing consolidation of knowledge and understanding of a systematically developed vocabulary of balletic movements. These include the ability to demonstrate various steps showing confident control of posture, turnout and line while turning and jumping. Students also further develop an awareness of their own safe dance practice and demonstrate an ability to perform with increasing confidence, awareness of the audience and responsiveness to musical rhythms, phrasing and dynamics. Our goal is to further ballet technique in students who show dedication and commitment to their learning and to teach them to do their best to the glory of God and not for themselves. (Advanced II is a continuation of I, working on the same techniques but in an older age group).
