The employee in this position will have the following essential job functions:

  • Assists Controller with the oversight of all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all seminary policies and relevant federal, state and local regulations
  • Assists in the development and implementation of internal controls and appropriate seminary accounting policies and procedures to ensure sound financial practices, protect seminary financial assets, and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements
  • Participation in and supervision of the monthly and annual close process
  • Assists with the completion and preparation of monthly financial reports and the seminary’s annual financial statements
  • Assists in the coordination of audits of the seminary’s annual consolidated financial statements with auditing firms and ensure the timely preparation of supporting schedules for the year-end audit requirements
  • Maintains detailed records of all investment portfolio transactions utilizing micro computer investment application and manual record keeping systems.  Records monthly interest, principal payments, purchases, sales, and calls.  Verifies investment transactions are in compliance with the Seminary’s Investment Policy and are properly documented.  Prepares and/or reviews account analyses and reconciliations of general ledger and subsidiary records
  • Assists the Controller in the oversight and review of pre-investment and annual post-investment due diligence on all the Seminary’s alternative investments
  • Assists the Controller with the accounting and analysis functions related to the Seminary’s investment portfolio, including monthly and annual investment return calculations
  • Manages and maintains documentation of funds held in trust by others
  • Analyzes and implements new GAAP pronouncements
  • Prepares and maintains accounting policy documentation
  • Develops and manages staff, including the development and monitoring of staff and functional objectives and the timely completion of performance reviews and individual development plans.  Supports Seminary budget managers and executive management in the preparation of the Seminary’s annual operating budget
  • Manages accounting projects for business operations changes
