the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

Prospective Students

Thank you for your interest in the Research Doctoral Program at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Below you will find information that will be helpful in your inquiry of our programs.

Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)

The Ed.D is a 60-hour degree that has been carefully designed to develop skills in scholarship, service, and problem-solving in the context of coordinated learning communities. This design has been structured around a “signature pedagogy” that sets the Ed.D. apart from other doctoral degrees at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Doctor of Missiology (D.Miss.)

The D.Miss. is an advanced professional degree designed for missions practitioners. Within the 48 hours of study, your program will culminate with a field research project that addresses a missiological issue in your particular missions context.

Master of Theology (Th.M.)

The Th.M. has both a Ministry track and a Research track designed for different purposes. The Ministry track allows students to take the extra step in their studies, while the Research track typically prepares a student for further studies. Whether you want further expertise in a specific area of study or want further preparation before Ph.D. studies, the Th.M. is the degree for you.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

The Ph.D. program is our most rigorous degree at 66 hours and offers concentrations in a variety of research areas. Each degree plan is crafted not only to expose students to advanced scholarship in their field but also to equip students to interact with current trends in their area of study. The degree culminates in a dissertation and comprehensive exams.
