the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

Master of Theology

The expectations for the Master of Theology program depend on which Th.M. program the student matriculates into.

A Research Th.M. student is required to do a thesis. There will be no committee or defense for the research thesis, but an internal reader which students must have by the end of their first semester. The word count for the thesis should be between 15,000-20,000 words.

Th.M. courses are advanced M.Div. courses with the following requirements in addition to the normal workload for M.Div. courses.

Every Th.M. student must produce a paper consisting of 4000-5000 words and discuss their topic with the professor by the third week of class. Additionally, the student should read an additional 300 pages or more which will be chosen in consultation with the professor.
